January 15, 2012 2012 Nebraska American Legion Baseball Rule Changes The National deadline for paying registration fees and obtaining insurance is May 15, 2012. After that, a $200 late fee will be assessed and teams must contact the Activities Director at Department to get registered. June 15 is the deadline for dual rostering players and adding/deleting players on the roster All transfers must be completed on a Form 76 and are good for one year. Form 77's are no longer being used. Form 77's signed before the 2012 season will be honored. Final Area/District assignments will be posted by June 30, 2012 The deadline is May 21, 2012 for all umpires applying for State Tournaments and June 18, 2012 for all other umpires 1.02 (a), Player Eligibility: Senior Legion Baseball is open only to players born on or after January 1, 1993. Junior Legion Baseball is open only to players born on or after January 1, 1995. 1.02 (b), Player Eligibility: Eligibility may only be broken by change in legal primary residence (no longer "mailing address"). 1.05 Uniforms: Patches are avialable through Department Headquarters for $2.00 each 1.07 Dual Roster Players: Class A - 3 players from the Junior Roster. Class B and C can dual roster 5 players from the Junior roster. Both not to exceed 18 players on the roster. 1.09 First Aid: (NEW) Concussion/Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Rule: Coaches, Managers and Administrators and Tournament Directors: (1) Must obtain a certificate of training from the CDC (http://www.cdc.gov.concussion.HeadsUp/Training/HeadsUpConcussion.html). (b) Certificate is due to Department Headquarters no later than June 15th. The certificate is required to be on hand at every Legion baseball game and at all Post Season Tournaments and is an inspectable item by Tournament Directors at the Seeding Meeting. (more to this rule in the 2012 Nebraska American Legion Rulebook). 2.06 Bats: All non-wood bats must have NCAA BBCOR certification. If any bat fails to meet this requirement, the bat shall be removed from the game, the batter shall be declared out and the Head Coach or Team Manager shall be ejected from the game. Regardless of whether players provide their own equipment or not, the Coach/Manager is responsible for all equipment in the dugout or on the playing field. Further offenses by a coach/manager may result in suspension from American Legion Baseball. 2.07 Minimum Players: A game shall be considered a forfeit if an opposing team is unable to - or refuses to - field 9 players on the field. If a team starts the game with 9 players, they must finish the game with 9 players or it is a forfeit. This rule applies to regular and post-season play. 2.08 Limited Substitution: NO MORE Re-entry of players, NO MORE courtesy runners. Designated Hitter may bat for the starting pitcher or subsequent pitchers only. 3.04 Class B and C Enrollment: (Divorce Rule) Parents having court ordered custody of a player during the Legion Baseball season, do not have to use the enrollment of the school attended by that player. The enrollment used will be that of the school recruited by the team. Parent MUST provide legal documentation of the court-ordered custody. Legal guardianship or other "arrangements" between parents do no apply. 4.03 Ejections: Remove sub-paragraph (i). Team must start and finish a game with 9 players. 6.01 Tournament Director: Programs that fail to have the Tournament Director or a representative attend the June Tournament Director's meeting, automatically forfeit that tournament. Another tournament site will be selected. 6.04 Tournament Games: (a) Tournament Brackets will be provided by the Department and are to be the only bracket format used. Tournaments must begin on Friday provided there is not a "play in" part of the bracket (7 and 9 team tournaments) which may be played on Thursday. Allowances may be made for 9+ team tournaments, but requests to start early must still be approved by the Athletic Committee Chairman. 6.06 Suspended Games: Suspended games will be completed from the point of suspension. If suspended game is played the following day, teams can still play an additional two (2) full games. No game will start past 11:00PM.

Team Area assignments will be added to this website after rosters are submitted, but for planning purposes for Tournament Directors, last years Area assignments are listed HERE.

December 2, 2011 Coaching Vacancy The Ralston American Legion Post 373 Baseball Committee is looking to fill a coaching vacancy for our Junior team for the 2012 season. We will be hiring one Junior head coach and one assistant to work under our Senior head coach, Tim Winters. Qualified candidates will possess a strong background in teaching basic fundamentals of the game in addition to strong leadership qualities. September 25, 2011 Lincoln Baseball Player selected as the Nebraska American Legion Player of the Year Trevon D. McGill of Lincoln has been selected as the 2011 Nebraska American Legion Player of the Year. Each year thousands of America’s youth participate in American Legion Baseball across the State. This year Trevon D. McGill of Lincoln Pius X was selected above all others as the Nebraska American Legion Baseball Player of the Year. Trevon has shown extensive support to baseball, education and to his community. Selected as the Class B All-State Honorary Captain, Academic All-State and National Honor Society, Trevon also volunteers as an assistant baseball coach for youth baseball.

March 28, 2011 *American Legion Baseball Patch on Uniforms* American Legion Baseball players, coaches, managers and umpires are required to have the Legion Baseball emblem ironed on either the left sleeve or the left chest of his or her uniform. But thanks to a recent license agreement, teams now have a choice of using The American Legion Baseball emblem sleeve insignia patch or having a "sublimated" baseball emblem. As an official licensed provider of Legion Baseball team uniforms, Wilson Sporting Goods - a manufacture of ball sports equipment - now offers teams and coaches the option to add a printed version of the official American Legion Baseball sleeve emblem to their uniforms. However, the traditional sleeve patch will continue to be available for purchase through American Legion. . To order your custom team uniforms with the American Legion Baseball emblem, visit your local or online sporting goods dealer and request Wilson by name. Or to find a dealer in your area go to http://www.wilson.com/en-us/forms/finddealers/ If you would like to have the patch printed on by someone other than Wilson, you must obtain permission, you can submit an emblem usage form and it must go through the NE Department for approval before being forwarded to National Headquarters. February 18, 2011 *Nebraska Baseball Coaches Association names NALB Athletic Committee Member "Person of the Year"* The Nebraska Baseball Coaches Association has named *Don Kiviniemi* its "Person of the Year" in statewide voting. Don has actively worked with American Legion Baseball since 1987 and is a member of Martin Graves Bellevue American Legion Post 339, where he has been Sports Chairman since 1988. Since 2005, he has been an Area A representative and recently completed two consecutive terms as Chairman on the Department of Nebraska Athletic Committee, which has direct oversight responsibility for Nebraska American Legion Baseball across the state. Don's foresight and ability to think outside the box have brought significant improvements to Nebraska American Legion Baseball and include the establishment of the NALB Umpire Liaison Committee which has resulted in continuous improvement to the NALB Umpire training and certification program. Don lives in Bellevue with his wife Gayle. Their son Donald is head baseball coach at Bellevue East High School and daughter Lynn is a 3rd Grade Elementary Teacher in Bellevue. Don and Gayle have five grandchildren that include one granddaughter and four grandsons.

Fill out the form, save the file on your hard drive, print it and then have your Area Athletic Committee member verify the birth certificates and sign the form. Mail the form to Department with payment.
