Since
1925, The American Legion has sponsored a nationwide youth baseball
program. During these past eight decades, over 10 million players have
enjoyed playing the game of baseball. The American Legion and the 2.7
million members have raised millions of dollars each year to give young
baseball players an opportunity to learn the importance of teamwork,
team loyalty, discipline, leadership and good sportsmanship. The
purpose of American Legion Baseball has always been to help develop
America's youth that will someday step forward and become the nation's

NEBRASKA AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL |
In 2009, Nebraska American Legion Baseball
supported over 300 Junior and Senior teams across the state, comprised
of over 4,100 players. Posts, sponsors, parent groups and countless
volunteers successfully conducted 41 District tournaments and 7 State
tournaments, culminating in 2 Nebraska Class A teams participating in
two Regional national tournaments. Nebraska American Legion
Baseball conducts one of the strongest programs in the country and is
one of the top programs in the nation in players per capita. |

The
American Legion is the largest veteran's organization in the
world with a membership of nearly 3 Million war-time veterans in
the United States, District of Columbia and four foreign
countries. Members of The American Legion are honorably
discharged men and women who served their country on active duty
in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War I,
World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama and
Persian Gulf Wars and Conflicts. The American Legion was
founded and organized in 1919. Since that time, The American
Legion has touched virtually every facet of American life,

BaseballNebraska has been promoting and publicizing American
Legion Baseball since 2006, primarily at the Class A level. The
website will be expanding to include Classes B and C (both Juniors and
Seniors) for the 2010 season and will include schedules, scores,
standings, rosters, news stories and photos for all three classes. Teams
that are interested in participating may contact
Jody Moeller or
Jack Mayfield to request an information package. This is an
excellent option for listing all the information for your team(s) and
promoting your program to an audience that includes players, fans, high
school and Legion coaches, college coaches and professional scouts.

years of service to The American Legion and American Legion Baseball as
a member of the Department of Nebraska Athletic Committee. Filling his position as
one of the Area D members of the
committee will be Richard Hessler of Chadron. |

2/2/10 - NALB - Help The American Legion's
OPERATION COMFORT WARRIORS with your
VOTE!
INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 1, 2010) – The American
Legion’s Operation Comfort Warriors is competing for a $250,000 grant to
be awarded by Pepsi Cola, Inc. More than 700 charities are competing for
grants, which are determined by the number of votes received at its Web
site. As of this morning, Operation Comfort Warriors was 21st in voting.
The top two vote getters will receive quarter-million dollar grants.

12/17/09 - 2010 S. A. Van Dyk Insurance
Information
This is information contained
in a letter from S. A. Van Dyk:
"As you may or may not be
aware, YOU WILL NOT BE RECEIVING AN APPLICATION FROM OUR OFFICE.
The 2010 baseball insurance applications are now going to be completed
online at The American Legion website [national], which is
http://www.legion.org/baseball.
Once your application has been approved by your State Baseball Chairman,
we will be advised and, just as in the past, the policies will be issued
and mailed from our office.
The accident medical limit is
$100,000 per person with a premium of $160.00 for Senior Seasonal
Insurance, $235.00 for Senior Annual Insurance, $140.00 for
Junior Seasonal Insurance, and $205.00 for Junior Annual Insurance.
The liability limit has been
increased to a $2,000,000 per occurrence limit and the premium has
remained the same; $145.00 for Senior team insurance and $100.00
for Junior team insurance.
There is still at $10.00
policy administration fee on each application; however, there is no
charge for a liability Certificate of Insurance.

10/29/09 - UMPIRE rule change
Rule Change for 2010; starting in 2010, umpires
must attend an annual American Legion sponsored Umpire
Clinic and Rules Meeting to be eligible for Area and State Tournaments.
For clarification, an umpire is registered when he/she
fills out the umpire registration application and pays his/her $35.00
fee to Department Headquarters. An umpire becomes certified
when he/she attends a Legion sponsored umpire clinic and rules
meeting and completes the umpire test. Rule 2.02 will read as
follows:
NALB Rule 2.02 UMPIRES: Use of REGISTERED
umpires during regular season games IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Only REGISTERED AND CERTIFIED American Legion umpires
who have attended an annual American Legion sponsored
Umpire Clinic and rules meeting and completes the umpire test
will be eligible to work Area Tournaments. ONLY REGISTERED AND
CERTIFIED UMPIRES will be selected and paid by the Department
Athletic Committee for State Tournaments. |

10/26/09 - Class A Regional Tournament
Change The regional tournament
destination for the two Class A divisional champion teams will remain
the same as in years past, that is, the Class A Champion will go to the
Region 6 tournament and the Class A Runner-up will go to the Region 4
tournament. It was previously announced that both teams would
attend the same Regional tournament as a cost-savings measure, and this
may happen in 2011. |

SENIOR teams and a $25 fee

10/13/09 Nebraska American Legion
Baseball changes for 2010 At the
Athletic Committee meeting held in Lincoln on Saturday, October 10,
coaches in attendance gave their input and ideas for changes to the 2010
season. Discussion included elimination of the By-Pass rule for
all classes, beginning Area/District tournaments on Friday, getting
American Legion Posts more involved with teams, adjusting enrollment
numbers for Class B and C, and increasing Dual Rosters numbers for Class
B and C. Chairman Kiviniemi also outlined in detail the new online
registration system that will be mandatory for all teams in 2010.
Following the Coaches meeting, the Athletic
Committee met in executive session and approved the following changes
for 2010:
- Mandatory use of National Online
Registration System by all teams in 2010 (CREDIT CARD REQUIRED) -
Utilization of online registration system for teams will be May 3, 2010 -
Deadline for online team registration is May 31, 2010 -
Nebraska Team Entry fee will be $125 - Deadline for announcing
the final Area/District team assignments will be June 21, 2010 -
Deadline for umpire state tournament registration is May 25, 2010 -
Deadline for umpire for regular umpire registration is June 18, 2010 -
Class B enrollment will be 161 to 599. - Class C enrollment
will be 160 or less - Elimination of the
"By Pass" rule for players cut from tryouts - Rule 3.04 is now
Class B & C (ONLY) Enrollment. This rule covers the 10% enrollment - Dual Roster of players on the Senior
roster will be June 21, 2010 - Maximum of 3 Dual Roster players
for Class A - Maximum of 5 Dual Roster players for Class B and
C - "300" Rule increased to 320 for Class C -
Add/Delete player roster deadline is June 21, 2010
The above rule
changes and others will be finalized and available in more detail
following the January 2010 Athletic Committee meeting and the Official
NALB Rule Book will be available soon thereafter, both online and in
print. |
