Umpire Liaison Committee  
The Department of Nebraska Athletic Committee formed the Umpire Liaison Committee in 2007 to assist the committee in the following:
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Nebraska American Legion Baseball Umpire Certification and Training Program.
  • Assist in the formulation of umpire policies for Nebraska American Legion Baseball
  • Assist in the consideration of rule changes
  • Assist in the selection of State Tournament Umpires

4/15/10 - ATTENTION UMPIRES Umpire packets are being sent out as soon as possible.  Umpires who have attended an umpire clinic/rules meeting will be getting packets with all rule books.  The 2010 MLB rule book will be sent out at a later date and until they are received, the remaining 2009 copies will be sent out.  Remember to check the due dates (deadlines) for 2010 umpire applications.

2010 Umpire Certification Information
  • Cost for certification is $35
  • Umpire certification deadline is May 25, 2010.  (Late certification will be handled on a case-by-case basis by the Activities Director)
  • All umpires (New and Renewal) are required to pass a 20-25 question, open-book exam which will be turned in with the Umpire Application for CertificationExams are only available at umpire clinics/ rules meetings".
  • To be considered for assignment to work AREA tournaments, a certified umpire must complete an official American Legion Rules Meeting (annually) and an Umpire Clinic at least once every three years.  Umpire is responsible for contacting Area Tournament Directors to work Area Tournament games.
  • To be considered for assignment to work STATE Tournaments, a certified umpire must complete an official American Legion Rules Meeting and Clinic every year; have been an American Legion Umpire a minimum of five (5) years; and have umpired Area tournaments for at least three (3) years.  The Department Athletic Committee will select State Tournament Umpires.
  • It is recommended that an Umpire Resume be attached to the Application for Certification for experienced Umpires who are interested in working Area and State Tournaments.
  • It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that ALL UMPIRES attend one of the Clinics/Rules Meetings held around the State.
  • Umpires requesting State Tournament assignment should forward a copy (if any) of their scheduled games for high school, college and Legion games with their Certification Application.
