The Department Athletic Committee recommends that all Nebraska American Legion Baseball teams follow all local, State and Federal health guidelines.
Participation in the American Legion, Department of Nebraska baseball (NALB) is completely voluntary. Any participant, umpire, player, coach, volunteer, organizer, parents and fans is not required or solicited. If at any time, you feel that participating in NALB makes you uncomfortable, you should just not participate, at any level.
Reminder for NE Legion teams: ONLY the training provided by the PYS company will be accepted. Previously we accepted the training provided by USA Baseball. NALB will no longer utilize that training – When a team administrator registers a team and inputs the coaches, those coaches will receive an email indicating they have been listed and are required to take a background check and the SAM training. That email comes from the National system and still includes the option of USA Baseball training and the option of PYS. Disregard the USA Baseball. A Coach does not need to provide a PYS certificate to the office as that information is linked to their name in the background check system on PYS. When a person applies for a background check, they should receive an email providing a link to take the SAM training on the PYS system. That link is only good for 14 days. After 14 days, you must contact me so I can have it resent.
Plans for the end of season meeting are being finalized and will be shared soon. If you have any comments on the season, suggestions for making our program better, email them to me at firstname.lastname@example.org so the Athletic Committee can discuss them at the meeting.
The Emblem vs. Brand Mark follow-up. There has been a lot of discussion this spring and we should have a final resolution on the matter at the end of the month. The website Baseball Brand Mark | The American Legion (https://www.legion.org/brand/baseball) will be updated following a meeting at the National level. To clarify things, the “Emblem” is defined as the Legion emblem with cross bats and the “Brand Mark” is defined as the new design logos.
To answer everyone's question regarding team uniforms.
1. Team uniforms will have the cross bats emblem on left sleeve or chest as outlined in accordance with national rule.
2. For digital marketing only (website, social media, email signatures, etc.) we are approved to use the new baseball marks. This includes ESPN, social influencers, anything that is clearly advertising or promotional.
The 2023 Post Season Tournament locations have been selected and are posted. I want to thank everyone that sent in an application and if your team was not selected to host this year, I encourage you to apply again next year.
I have added the 2023 Form 2 to our Nebraska Legion Baseball page under Rules and Forms. I have asked the National Office to update their form, in the meantime, feel free to use our version.
The NCAA recently conducted additional testing of the previously-certified 33 in./30 oz. Louisville Slugger 2020 Meta (-3) BBCOR baseball bat. The conclusion of this additional testing resulted in the NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) removing this specific model from their approved-for-play bat list. At this time, no other sizes of this bat model, or any previous model years of the bat model, have been decertified.
