In accordance with NALB Rule 8.04 REGIONAL UMPIRE GUIDELINES and Jody Moeller, Chairman of Nebraska American Legion Baseball: ALL UMPIRES that wish to be considered for Regional Tournament consideration must qualify with the following:
- Be a registered umpire with the NALB for 3 consecutive seasons prior to the regional date.
- Have worked a minimum of 3 Class A State Tournaments.
- Work a minimum for 15 regular season games.
- Be in good standing with the NALB.
- Umpires must be dedicated to the NALB and know they are good enough for a regional assignment.
- Consistently show professionalism, leadership and character, worthy of such a prestigious assignment.
- Complete the regional application, include your resume and submit it to the Department Headquarters for vetting.
- Umpire committee members that apply must have the Chief Umpires approval.
Umpires could work up to 3 games a day for the first couple of days in high heat and humidity. Typically, in your first plate game you will have the best two pitchers within the 7-state region, so be prepared to be 100% then and throughout the tournament.
- You will be a part of a 6-man crew, check your egos at the door.
- Be able to handle that level of play without question.
- Know the rules and how to enforce them.
- Be proficient in a 3-man and 4-man rotation.
- Show proper game management skills to diffuse any situation without an ejection.
- Must be able to handle any situation or make the tough call in a tense situation.
- Must conduct yourself as a representative of the NALB with complete professionalism.
